Community Solutions Think Tank
Our seven-week Community Solutions Think Tank engages high school students in exploring careers in Public Health, Urban Planning, and Architecture & Design, leading to a promising proposal for a pocket park in the community. With proposals entirely based on student ideas and strategies learned from guest presenters throughout the program, this initiative is supported by key partnerships. At the end of the seven weeks, students present their community solutions to leaders and stakeholders, focusing on promoting physical activity, improving quality of life, and revitalizing public green space in underserved neighborhoods.
2021 - South Elyria Pocket Park
In 2021, we hosted a seven week Community Solutions Think Tank program with the goal to increase high school youth awareness around careers and topics related to Public Health, Urban Planning, and Architecture & Design. Students took part in a case study to collect data and propose their ideas on developing a vacant parcel on West Avenue into a pocket park in South Elyria. Student's feedback was positively received by the community, Elyria Parks and Recreation, and City of Elyria council members.
